Life Before 8am {Rhonda}

“See and appreciate the significance in the mundane, in the everyday, in the fleeting.  The big moments are important, but some of the best moments are in the in-between ones.” – Karen Jacot Photography

What does life look like before 8am? Well, mine feels a little crazy. My husband and I both work shift work, so some mornings look a little wilder than others. This morning we were both home and when I say we were both home, that means that one was the driver (hubs) and the other was the prodder of kids (me). Out of the many photos that I have of my family, these are some of my favorites. This is who we are, from the tips of the messy hair to the bottoms of our footie jammies. Enjoy a peak into a typical Thursday morning before 8am around our house.

The oldest and youngest are the first ones up (after me, of course) and they have a special bond that melts my heart.

Dog Bailey is ready for his breakfast, too.

My favorite shot of the morning is when Daddy wakes up and shares a snuggle with the babe (there is nothing quite like a baby who loves to give hugs).

After the biggest is off to school, it’s time to wake the others. Right now we have the three middles sharing a room (8, 5, & 3) until the baby sleeps through the night. We had to be creative with furniture, but it’s working for us, and for them. I have a little helper when it’s time to wake the others.

Most of my heart is in this picture.

My oldest daughter is a real morning person. She rises with the sun and is ready to go… which is the only real problem with sharing a room, because her little sister is… well… not so much. She prefers some morning cuddles and time to wake up before she really starts her day.

Making room (and a fun tunnel for brother).

They are all very helpful… especially to the baby.

This chair… this chair is probably my most favorite material item in my house. It is an old, sturdy, oak swivel rocker that I got from my parents when I was pregnant with my first… 16 years ago (cue tears here). It has rocked each of my babies, held many tears and joyful moments (insert more tears here).

My middle son is so desperate for a loose tooth that he asks us to check his teeth. Every. Single. Morning.

The three-year-old can’t WAIT to go to school, she is the send off committee-of one (and tries to sneak in the car while she’s at it).

Unlike her big sister who doesn’t like to read, this one LOVES books. When everyone is off to their school, she wants her own “school.”

When you’re up early, nap time is a good break in the morning.  High five for naps!

As we have just finished breastfeeding, this photo is very special to me. As the final of 5 very different, and sometimes difficult, breastfeeding journeys I am glad to have this memory forever saved.

I hope you have enjoyed a small peek into our home before 8 am. Messy hair, crazy kids, and a mom and dad just taking it one cup of coffee at a time.
