Before having kids, I never really gave my skin much thought.
I put on sunblock in the morning and moisturized at night, and that was the extent of my skin care routine. For the most part, I’ve always been blessed with pretty good skin. In high school, I would have random breakouts, just like any other teenager, but I never suffered from acne. And If I had a dime for every time I went to bed with a face full of make up in college, I could probably pay off my student loans.
But that all changed when I got pregnant. Pregnancy does funny things to your body, and your skin is no exception. I have very fair skin, and there were a few years in high school and college when I wasn’t as liberal with the sunscreen as I am now, and within a few months of being pregnant with my first, sun spots began to appear. They faded a bit after giving birth, but were still noticeable, especially to me. I also suffered from horrible breakouts after I stopped nursing due to hormone fluctuations.
Basically my skin couldn’t decide if I was an old lady or a pre-teen.
So, you can imagine my excitement when I was asked to try a series of laser facials with Dr. Jillian Ciocchetti at Northpoint Aesthetics. Northpoint Aesthetics offers a variety of services, from skin rejuvenation and laser hair removal to sun damage and age spot treatments. Jillian took the time to meet with me and talk about my concerns, then designed a treatment plan that she felt would best address my skin problems. Ultimately, she suggested a series of Laser Genesis and Limelight Facials, which would remedy the dark spots on my cheeks and forehead.
The Laser Genesis treatment uses non-invasive lasers to treat fine lines, wrinkles, and redness. They were virtually painless, and I felt a gentle warming sensation during treatments.
The Limelight Facials are also non-invasive laser treatments, and were a bit more “spicy”. They felt like a little zap or shock on my skin. After the first treatment, the dark spots began to “coffee grind” as the pigment was brought to the surface and then eventually flaked away.
I was also fortunate enough to discover dermaplaning! This exfoliation treatment uses a surgical scalpel to scrape off the top layer of skin and peach fuzz from your face. It sounds scary, but it was completely painless. My skin has never felt as smooth as it did after this treatment, and it literally glowed for several weeks.
At the completion of my treatments, I am completely blown away at the difference in my skin.
It looks healthier, clearer, and younger. My brown spots are almost completely gone in some areas, but all are much lighter. I feel much more confident and like my skin finally reflects my age again.
One of my favorite things about seeing Dr. Ciocchetti was her selection of skin care products available at the office. She carries the Image Skincare line, which are natural (important to me) and very affordable. I am currently using retinol cream from the “Ageless” line and the sunblock from the “Prevention” line. Not only do they smell amazing, but I have noticed a huge difference in the way my skin looks and feels.
I have finally found a product line that fits my budget and actually does what it promises to do.
